Getting your vehicle serviced regularly can help prolong its lifespan, reduce running costs and decrease the likelihood of a breakdown. All good stuff.
But our research1 shows that one in ten drivers don’t have an up-to-date service for their vehicle. And a further one in 20 drivers don’t even know when their next service is due.
So, let’s look at the reasons why it’s well worth keeping your vehicle serviced.

Servicing your vehicle can be value for money
Almost a third of drivers say they haven’t had their vehicle serviced lately because of the cost. However, regular servicing can actually help reduce the long-term costs of running your vehicle.
It can identify potential safety hazards and prevent any serious and expensive faults2. It can also help to improve a vehicle’s fuel efficiency and prolong its lifespan, helping the environment and saving you money in the long run.
Regular servicing can also help you out if you ever sell your vehicle…
Maintaining your vehicle is key to selling it
Data shows that having a full-service history can increase the resale value of a vehicle by 10-20 per cent3. It also makes a vehicle more attractive to buyers. 35% of drivers say this is the main reason they get their car serviced.
Meanwhile, from a buyers’ point of view, 73% of drivers who bought their vehicle second hand chose one with a full-service history. 40% said it was a key factor in their choice of vehicle.
Servicing helps keep your vehicle roadworthy
Roadworthy – that’s the basic thing we all need from our vehicles, right?
A quarter of the drivers we asked said they felt their vehicle was “running just fine”, but what do we really know about our vehicle’s health? Is everything actually fine?
Getting your vehicle serviced can reveal things such as worn-out brakes, damaged tyres, steering issues, electrical malfunctions, or engine problems4. These may not be immediately visible without a service and could easily cause problems in the long run.
A regular service is part of your warranty agreement
21% of drivers took their vehicles for a regular service because it was part of the warranty agreement.
When buying a new car, you must follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule and use the correct parts. Further reason to make sure your vehicle is serviced on a regular basis.
So, there you have it. Whether it’s to help prevent a sudden breakdown or save money in the long run, there are plenty of reasons to keep your vehicle service.
